You are buying an upgrade to the original Pioneer HPM-100 speaker crossover. Full technical details are available here.

The crossover is professionally assembled and ready to install. All components are secured to the PCB to ensure stability in a vibration-prone environment, and the PCB is bonded to 12 mm plywood for mechanical rigidity, following best loudspeaker construction practice. Terminal posts are provided for quick connection to the existing wiring, although upgrading internal wiring is recommended. Attaches to the speaker backplate using five self-tapping screws (included).

Two quality levels are available:

  • Level 1: Jantzen air-core inductors, 10 W MOX resistors, Jantzen Standard Z-Cap / Cross-Cap for the woofer, and Jantzen Standard Z-Caps for the mid-range and tweeter.

  • Level 2: Identical design, with the mid-range and tweeter capacitors upgraded to Jantzen Supreme series capacitors.

Level 2 is not kept in regular stock. I aim to keep at least one Level 1 unit available at all times. Back-orders are accepted, with a typical shipping time of 1–2 weeks.

Is the difference audible? Yes. Otherwise, there would be no reason to support two capacitor options in the same PCB design. The Standard Z-Cap is a conventional, well-performing polypropylene film capacitor. The Supreme series is Jantzen’s entry-level low-inductance capacitor and offers improved transient behavior. Due to this increased transient response, the tweeter and mid-range attenuation values are adjusted accordingly; without these changes, the speaker voicing becomes excessively bright.
